Spartans split doubleheader with Stars

The Aurora University baseball team split the NACC doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Standard Bank Stadium with Dominican University, dropping game one 14-3 before winning game two 6-0.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME ONE 
- AU fell behind 1-0 in the second but answered in the bottom of the inning.
- A pair of walks started the inning and Austin Wiskow singled to load the bases. Cale Sparks then singled to score a pair and AU led 2-1.
- Dominican quickly added three runs in the third and then added 10 more runs later in the game.
- Spartan Bryce DeSpain hit a long home run in the fourth to cut the score to 4-3 at the time but unfortunately was as close as the Spartans would get before losing 14-3.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME TWO
- The first 4-1/2 innings of game two were a pitchers dual with the starters controlling the action.
- Spartan starter Will King did get out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning.
- AU got the offense rolling in the bottom of the fifth. Nick Mathey led off with an infield single and he scored later on a Jett Wedekind double. Jeff Mayes scored on a sac fly and the Spartans had a 2-0 lead.
- The Spartans manufactured a run in the sixth, got one in the seventh and two in the eighth for the 6-0 victory.
- Chris Roycroft threw the final three innings for a save as he kept King's shutout alive for his third win of the year.
