Spartans split on day one of NACC Tourney

The Aurora University Spartan softball team split the two games played on day one of the 2018 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament. The Spartans defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College 5-1 in game one before later falling to Benedictine University 6-2.

GAME ONE - HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans scored first in the bottom of the first with a one out Sam Owens double. Kaylee Underwood pinch ran and scored later on a single from Abbey Rosenow.
- WLC tied the game up in the fourth with back to back doubles.
- The Spartans threatened in the bottom of the fourth thanks to two Warrior errors but AU came up empty.
- A one out double from Elaine Walker in the fifth got the AU offense ignited. She scored later on yet another WLC fielding error.
- Leading 2-1, the Spartans added more in the bottom of the sixth. Two more WLC errors fueled a three run rally. Brianna Lewis had a two-run single as one of two AU hits in the inning.
- Steph Renner kept the Warriors quiet as she went on to win her 11th game of the season. She struck out six and scattered five hits over seven innings of work.

GAME TWO - HOT IT HAPPENED
- AU scored first again in game two with Benedictine as Nina Tholl delivered a two out solo home run. Her first of the year was a no doubter to left.
- The home run ball struck against AU in the bottom of the inning as BU scored twice on a two-run homer.
- BU added two more runs in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth to build a 6-1 lead on the Spartans.
- The Spartans had chances of their own but left runners stranded in the second, fourth and fifth.
- AU threatened in the top of the seventh. With one out, two reached with Elaine Walker singling to score Anni Wilson. But the rally was extinguished and AU fell 6-2.
