The Aurora University women's hockey team remained unbeaten on the season with an emphatic 6-3 NCHA opening victory over Finlandia University at the Fox Valley Ice Arena on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first period was a back and forth contest for the first almost 18 minutes of action.
- With 2:04 left in the opening period, AU broke the scoreless tie when
Olivia Monzel scored with assists to
Lexie Martinez and
Hannah Gwillim.
- Just 24 seconds later, AU added on with
Marisa Trevino scoring the first of what would end up as a hat trick on the day.
Olivia Matson and
Mak Cooke picked up the helpers.
- AU took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
- The Spartans jumped out of the gate in the second with Trevino scoring her second 1:07 into the period for a 3-0 AU lead. Matson and
Marissa Dunbar assisted on the goal.
- The AU defense and goalie
Chiara Pfosi took a 3-0 shutout into the second intermission.
- Two power play goals in the first 1:32 of the third period gave the Spartans a 5-0 lead.

Taylor Sims (Cooke and
Emma-Lee Martel) and
Nicole McKernan (Dunbar) scored the power play tallies.
- A short handed goal at 7:01 of the third got Finlandia on the board and they would add two more to pull to within 5-3 with 6:44 left in the game.
- Trevino put that rally to bed though as she scored her hat trick goal at 16:33 when she pounded home a rebound off a
Sadie Parton shot.
- AU went on to win 6-3.
