2019 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship - preview

The 2019 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place on Thursday, May 23, Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25, 2019. Aurora University has individuals, Ryan Njegovan and Jocelyn Ocon competing in three events at the Championships hosted by University of Mount Union in Geneva, Ohio  at the SPIRE Institute.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS:
Senior Ryan Njegovan is making a return trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships after a season away from the throwing arena. In 2017, also hosted in Geneva, Ohio, the Spartans finished 12th overall with 19 points led by Njegovan as he was the individual national champion in the discus and he finished fifth in the shot put, earning All-American honors in both events. With the national championship by Njegovan in the discus, he became the first Spartan men's outdoor track and field champion and following his 2017 indoor national title in the shot put, now holds the only two national championships as a team or individual in AU history.

Junior Jocelyn Ocon will also be making a return trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She finished 18th in the 2018 NCAA Championship in the hammer throw with a throw of 50.42 meters.

ALL-TIME AU AND NCAA OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY:
  • - AU began competing in Outdoor Track and Field in 2003 when the program was reintroduced to campus.
  • - In the 17th season, AU has won 14 outdoor conference championships, nine women's and five men's.
  • - AU has had 22 Outdoor All-Americans spanning 13 events.
  • - Since 2007, AU has had 51 individuals qualify for events.

2019 CHAMPIONSHIPS LOCATION AND QUALIFYING INFORMATION:
The championships will be held May 23-25, 2019, at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, with University of Mount Union serving as the official host. For each woman's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.

For each men's individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each women's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
