Alexander Lowe new cross country coach

Lowe named to lead AU cross country programs

Aurora University today announced the hiring of Alex Lowe as head coach of the AU men and women's cross country programs. Lowe will also serve as the assistant coach of the AU men and women's track and field teams coaching the middle distance and distance runners.

"We are excited to have Alex Lowe join the Spartan family to build on the success of the AU cross country programs," said Director of Athletics Jim Hamad. "Having Alex step in as head coach will move the expectations of the program back to a high level, which is a benefit to AU and our student-athletes."
 
Joining AU from southern California and Crescenta Valley High School where he served as an assistant coach for the past five seasons. As a collegiate runner, Lowe was a member of the Ole Miss (University of Mississippi) track and cross country teams. A native of Batavia, Illinois, Lowe holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Mississippi.
 
"I am very excited to be joining Aurora University and the cross country and track programs. The opportunity to work with the AU athletic department and the talented track staff already in place is one that any coach would relish," said Lowe. "There is a tremendous amount of potential in this cross country program, and it will be an honor to help that potential be realized and to continue to add to the rich history of Spartan athletics. I'd like to thank the AU administration led by Dr. Sherrick, Dr. Lora Delacey and Jim Hamad for allowing me the opportunity to work with the excellent student athletes of AU."

Lowe will inherit a men's and women's cross country program that has seen quite a bit of success in recent years. The Spartan men finished second in the 2019 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship and have won six NACC titles while the AU women have had representative in the NCAA Championships five times in recent years and have won six NACC titles as well.
