The 2020 spring trip to central Florida is underway for the Aurora University softball team and AU swept the opening doubleheader against Saint Mary's University (Minn.) and Bridgewater University.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME ONE vs. Saint Mary's University (Minn.)
- AU loaded the bases with one out in the second but were unable to push across a run.
- Spartan starter
Hannah Tomasko kept SMU off balance and off the bases as the game remained 0-0.
- In the fifth the Spartan offense struck.
Brianna Lewis walked to lead off the inning, moved to second on a sacrifice and then stole third.
- With one out,
Ashley Talaga laid down a perfect bunt which scored Lewis and AU led 1-0.
- The one run was all Tomasko would need as she completed the four hit shutout win to open the season.
SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS - GAME TWO vs. Bridgewater University
- AU took advantage of a pair of errors in the first inning with
Brianna Lewis scoring an unearned run on a
Mckenzie Flores single.
- With one out in the second the AU offense exploded for six runs off of five hits.
- After two innings, the Spartans led 7-0 for starter Steph Renner.
- AU added a run in the third with
Jemma Fiehweg singling and coming around to score a few hitters later.
- The Spartan offense continued to add to the lead in the fourth when
Megan Schwartz hit a long home run to left.
- Bridgewater was able to push across three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- In the sixth, an error led to another Bridgewater run but AU still led 9-4.
- AU would hold on to the five run lead and win 9-4.

Next action for the Spartan softball team comes on Monday, March 2 when they compete at the spring trip in Clermont, Florida. AU takes on Fontbonne University at 1:30 pm and Misericordia University at 3:45 pm.
