Matchup of nationally ranked opponents lives up to billing

The Aurora University baseball team was defeated in their Friday matchup with #2 Washington University. Game one WashU won 3-2, WashU also won game two 6-2. The doubleheader was a pair of well played contests among two of the top teams in Division III baseball.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS -
- Nick Malmberg started for the Spartans and held the Bears scoreless until the 4th inning.
- In the 4th WashU scored one run on two hits.
- In the 5th inning WashU would add two more to make it a 3-0 game.
- The Spartans remained scoreless until the 8th when a Josh Reinhardt double was followed up by a Corey Vondra double to cut the lead to 3-1.
- In the 9th Dylan White would single and advance to third as the ball got away from the left fielder to lead off the inning.
- Justin Sartori would single White in to cut the lead to one with nobody out in the last frame.
- The Spartans would bring the winning run up to the plate, but were not able to bring another run home with the Bears turning a well played 5-4-3 double play.
- AU fell to WashU 3-2.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
- The WashU offense jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with all five runs coming in the second inning coming on four hits off starter Skyler Yamamoto.
- The Spartans would get on the board in the third after Vondra singled and later came across on a throwing error by the catcher. Vondra was nearly caught off second by the pick attempt went into left center field allowing Vondra to scamper home.
- AU freshman pitcher Sam Harvey came on in relief for the Spartans held the WashU offense to just one run in five innings of work.
- The Spartan offense would score again in the 9th when Nico Bermeo tripled in Collin Meinert.
- AU was defeated in game two by WashU 6-2
