Spartans finish fourth at Elmhurst Twilight

The Aurora University women's track and field team competed at The Elmhurst Twilight hosted by Elmhurst University. The Spartan women finished fourth out of 10 teams with 66 points.  
 
The throwers had a very strong day as they finished the meet with a total of seven PRs. Sophomore Danni McCartney won the shot put with a season best throw of 11.97m (39'3.25"). McCartney also threw lifetime bests in the hammer and javelin. Kiara Russell threw a four-foot PR of 9.77m (32'0.75") in the shot put. Fresh off soccer, Kelsey Deck opened her season with two huge PR's. In the discus she placed fifth with her best throw of 34.66m (113'8") and in hammer she threw 29.55m (96'11"). Jordan Dobyns PR'd in the hammer as well. 
  
Abby Liesen ran a 15 second PR in the steeple. Her time of 12:30.09 ranks her eighth in AU history. Katy Liesen also PR'd in steeple. Freshmen Madison Etheridge, Shaley Gonzalez, and Desury Romualdo all ran lifetime bests in the 1500. In the 1500 Yanira Robledo ran her season best of 5:41.08. In the 800 Kristin Gessay ran her fastest time of 2:31.14.  
 
Gianna Davis ran her fastest 100 with a time of 13.77. The 4x400 meter relay of Gessay, Hannah Cure, Liesen, and Ava Sorgenfrey finished fourth with a time of 4:30.96.

Next action for the Spartan women is Friday, April 30 when they travel to Lisle, IL for the Red and White Invitational hosted by Benedictine University.
