Men's Track shows strong in BU tune-up

The Aurora University men's track and field team competed at the Benedictine Eagle Tune-Up hosted by Benedictine University. The Spartan men finished second out of ten teams with 104 points. Aurora was the top finishing Division III team at the meet. The men had a total of 17 top eight finishes, 13 PR's, and three additions to the top ten in AU history. 
 
Jalen Cole won the hammer in his first time ever competing in the event with a throw of 41.97m (137'8"). Shortly after Cole placed fourth in shot put. Brian Sackie-Mensah threw his lifetime best of 36.26m (118'11") in hammer earning him a sixth-place finish. In discus he came in seventh. Teammate Dylan Whisenant finished right behind him in eighth place.  
 
In long jump Malik Whitehead placed fifth (6.37m (20'10.75")) in his first time ever competing in the event. Jarell Mays finished sixth with a jump of 6.03m (19'9.5"), and Eric Teverbaugh placed seventh earning his lifetime best of 5.82m (19'1.25"). Carlos Flores also PR'd in long jump. Robbie Peterson finished second in high jump and fourth in triple jump from a short approach. His jump of 13.53m (44' 4.74") in triple ranks him third in AU history. Eli Grundman placed third in pole vault. 
 
Freshman Jacob Bohnert won steeple with his lifetime best of 10:00.77. This time ranks him fourth in program history. Nick Valle placed third in steeple running a 16 second PR. Alex Dills PR'd in the 1500 with a time of 4:41.36. In the 800 Jeremiah Cooley (fourth) and Jacob Hernandez (fifth) had season bests. Cormac Dietz ran his lifetime best of 2:05.45. Cooley ran his fastest 5K with a time of 15:56.07. This time places him eighth all-time at AU. 
 
In the sprints Whitehead placed eighth in the 200 running his lifetime best of 23.17. Grundman also ran his fastest time of 24.06. Isaac Heard PR'd in the 100 with a time of 11.69. The 4x100 meter relay of Whitehead, Danyrine White, Peterson, and Grundman (third) ran their lifetime best of 43.43. Whitehead, Francis Balquin, Hernandez, and Dietz placed second in the 4x400. 
 
Next action for the Spartan men is Friday, May 7 when they travel to Milwaukee, WI for the 2021 NACC Conference Championship hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College.
