The Aurora University women's track and field team finished sixth out of 11 teams at the Red Hawk Opener hosted by Ripon College. The Spartans had a total of eight personal record and one top ten all-time performance.
Aurora welcomed the distance squad back to the track as they competed in their first meet of the season. Four Spartans ran lifetime bests in the mile. Freshman
Deyanneira Colon Maldonado finished third with a time of 5:25.38. This time ranks her ninth in AU history.
Emily Fetzer and
Abby Liesen ran 5:47.34 and 5:50.08, respectively.
Isabella Encinas ran her fastest time finishing in 6:15.34. Shortly after, Liesen had another strong performance as she PR'd in the 800m with a time of 2:41.44. Colon Maldonado also scored for the Spartans in the 800m.
Freshman
Natalia Gabriel had personal bests in the pole vault and 60-meter hurdles. She vaulted 2.60m and ran 10.14.
Skylar Gibbs also PR'd in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.72.
Next action for the Spartan women's track and field team is Saturday, January 29 when they host the Aurora Grand Prix in Chicago, IL.
