Spartan bowlers have historical weekend at Peacock Classic

This past weekend the Aurora University Varsity Women's Bowling team made history at the 2022 Peacock Classic in Waterloo, Iowa. The tournament was hosted by Upper Iowa University and consisted of 6 traditional games, 25 games of baker, along with two rounds of baker match play.

On the first day of the tournament that consisted of baker format play, the Spartans set a record for total pin fall for the day, shooting a 4,471 overall which would leave them in second going into day two.

The Spartans would wind up with an 8-2 record for the weekend before heading into match play for day three. As the #3 seed, the Spartans faced off with #2 seeded Marian. The Spartans were able to tie Marian up at two games a piece but fell to the #2 seed 4-2. For the second round of match play the Spartans faced #4 seeded Quincy. The 3rd place match was close throughout, but the Spartans prevailed, winning the match 4-2.

Thus the Spartans made history, being the first team from AU to place in a tournament. After their 3rd place win, the Spartans look to continue their upward momentum as they have their first conference tournament next weekend, February 5-6.

The Spartans had three bowlers finish within the top 20:
Karlea Ceasario placed 7th, averaging 187.7 over 6 traditional games
Alex Bergin placed 13th, averaging 181.8 over 6 traditional games
Emilie Pleshar, placed 19th averaging 166.5 over 6 traditional games
