Grundman sets new pole vault mark as Spartans open indoor season

The Aurora University men's track team opened the 2023 indoor season at the Windy City Invitational hosted by Chicago State. The Spartans were competing with a partial squad before adding fall sport athletes to the roster for the remainder of the indoor season.
Providing the biggest highlight of the meet was Eli Grundmann. After setting the school record in the pole vault last year, he opened the season by breaking his own record. His clearance of 4.70m was good to finish second in the meet.
In the men's weight throw, the Spartans had two top 5 finishers. Dylan Whisenant finished second with his throw of 14.26m. Nick Tannehauser placed 4th with a mark of 13.24m.
Other top 5 finishes for the Spartans included Danyrine White in the 400m (4th), Nate Bermes in Pole Vault (4th), Tannehauser in Shot Put (3rd), and Eric Teverbaugh in High Jump (5th).
The Spartans will resume their indoor season January 21 at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater for the Karl Schlender Open.
