The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference announced the weekly Player of the Week Award recipients for the week of March 7-13, 2022 with Aurora University Spartan student-athletes in softball, women's lacrosse, and baseball receiving the top weekly recognition for their performances on the playing fields.
SOFTBALL
Hannah Tomasko -Â
NACC Pitcher of the Week
Tomasko, a senior earned the honor after she went 2-0 in her two starts - both complete-game performances - and then added two saves in relief as Aurora went 5-0 last week to improve to 6-0 overall. She struck out 22 in 15-2/3 innings with a high of 16 in a 5-2 win over the Coast Guard Academy.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Jalyn Yaukovitz -Â
NACC Defensive Player of the Week
Yaukovitz had a strong defensive performance as a midfielder, causing eight turnovers while controlling eight draws and collecting 10 ground balls as the Spartans went 2-1 last week. She also added four goals and three assists.
Monique Gibson-Â
NACC Offensive Player of the Week
Gibson had another strong offensive week for Aurora, tallying 13 points on nine goals and four assists. She tallied two goals and three assists in a 17-11 loss to Capital, then posted three goals in a 10-5 win at Illinois Wesleyan and four goals and an assist in an 11-5 victory over North Central (Ill.). Gibson added 17 draw controls to her midfield stats for the week.
This is the second straight NACC weekly honor for Gibson.
BASEBALL
Nico Bermeo -Â
NACCÂ Position Player of the Week
Bermeo, a sophomore infielder, hit .579 (11-of-19) in five games for the Spartans last week. He had at least two hits in each game with two doubles and a triple while driving in six runs. Bermeo scored five times and finished the week with a .789 slugging percentage and a .591 on-base percentage.
