Spartans split NACC opener at St. Norbert

The Aurora University baseball team opened Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play with a trip to northern Wisconsin to take on St. Norbert College. AU split the doubleheader, losing gae one 10-7 after allowing five runs in the bottom of the ninth and then picking up the split with a 12-7 game two victory.

How it happened
Game One
- The Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first with a Dylan White double scoring Corey Vondra.
- SNC took a 2-1 lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning.
- AU tied the game in the fourth with White singling and scoring on an error later in the inning.
- With two outs in the fifth, back to back singles from Vondra and Jett Wedekind allowed AU to pull off a first and third play and take a 3-2 lead.
- Five hits including doubles from Wedekind and Nick Baldassano led to four runs scoring and the Spartans leading 7-2.
- In the bottom of the inning, SNC scored three runs with two outs to cut the Spartan lead to 7-5.
- The score would remain 7-5 AU heading to the bottom of the ninth.
- A two-run double tied the game and following an intentional walk, a three-run home run ended the game with a 10-7 AU loss.

How it happened
Game Two 
- A solo home run from SNC in the third got the games scoring started.
- Back to back jacks in the fourth from Nico Bermeo (two-run homer) and Jack Seefeldt gave the Spartans a 3-1 lead.
- St. Norbert manufactured a run in the bottom of the fourth but AU still led 3-2.
- In the fifth, Justin Sartori hit a two-run homer to push the Spartans lead to 5-2.
- Five singles from SNC in the fifth plated three runs and the game was tied 5-5.
- AU grabbed the lead right back in the top of the sixth with a two-out double from Corey Vondra scoring Jack Seefeldt.
- Tyler Preissing came in for relief of Nick Malmberg in the bottom of the sixth and three hits including two doubles allowed SNC to take the 7-6 lead.
- Walks and the long ball was the AU answer in the seventh. With one out, Sartori doubled and scored on a Colin Meinert home run. Three walks in front of Corey Vondra resulted in Vondra's long ball being a grand type and AU now led 12-7.
- Sam Harvey came in to toss two scoreless innings and Alec Strupp tossed a scoreless ninth for the AU win.
