AU women finish fifth at NACC Outdoor

The Aurora University women's track and field team finished fifth with 77 points at the 2022 NACC Conference Championships hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College. The Spartans was led by Deyanneira Colon Maldonado who earned NACC Freshman of the Year honors.

Colon Maldonado earned the honor by winning the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:24.27 and finishing second in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:55.91. This earned the Spartans 18 points for the two events and she earned All-Conference honors for both events as well.

Emily Fetzer scored in the 10,000 meter where she finished fifth (41:10.16) and in the 5,000 meter, finishing eighth (19:41.24).

Sam Barrett scored in two events, the 400 meter hurdles (fifth - 1:08.07) and the steeplechase (sixth - 12:55.38).

Scoring in events were Ari Mack finished eighth in the 800 (1:03.48), Skyler Gibbs in the 400 meter hurdles (seventh - 1:09.95), Abby Liesen in the steeplechase (fourth - 12:16.44), Alayna Koehler in the high jump (sixth - 1.51m), Lauren Spain in the pole vault (fifth - 2.49m), Silja Erickson in the discus (fifth - 37.70m), Jordan Dobyns in the hammer (eighth - 37.98m) and a pair of Spartans in the javelin, Ashlyn Nakashima (sixth - 31.40m) and Ashley Greer (eighth - 30.57m). 

In the heptathlon, Gibbs (fourth - 3558 points), Koehler (fifth - 3424 points) and Hannah Cure (seventh - 3063 points) rounded out the AU scorers.

Next action for the Spartan women is Thursday, May 12 when they travel to Naperville, IL for the Dr. Keeler Last Chance Meet hosted by North Central College.
