AU women start strong at PNW Opener

The Aurora University Track and Field team competed in the PNW Classic track meet hosted by Purdue Northwest at the Gately Track and Field Complex. This meet was unscored.

The most impressive event of the day for the Spartans came in the 60m hurdles, where Aurora finished first and second. Skylar Gibbs won the event, with a new lifetime best of 9.31. This mark is the seventh best in AU history. Mary Dietz finished second in the event, just one-one hundredth behind Gibbs. Dietz's mark of 9.28 in the preliminary rounds is the sixth fastest in AU history.

Lauren Bliefernicht picked up right where she left off with her strong outdoor campaign. The defending NACC champion in the 100m dash ran two personal bests in both the 60m and the indoor 200m. Her 60m PR of 7.99 is the third fastest in AU history, while her 200m time of 26.22 puts her sixth.

Ari Mack opened the season with a strong 400m dash. Her time of 1:00.90 is a new indoor collegiate best, and the eighth best mark in Spartan history.

On the field side, Silja Erickson led the way, finishing second in the meet in shot put. Her toss of 11.65m is a new personal best. Alayna Koehler placed sixth in high jump, with a new indoor PR. Faustyna Karpiesiuk finished fifth in triple jump, with a mark of over ten meters.

Up next for the Spartans is the Sharon-Colyear Opener hosted by Boston University, where the Spartans will have a pair of athletes compete on December 2nd.
