AU women finish second at NACC Indoor Championship

The Aurora University women's track and field team placed second amongst a tough field at the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference Championship meet hosted by Illinois Tech. The team finished with a score of 93 points.
Skylar Gibbs and Alayna Koehler earned all conference honors in the pentathlon. Gibbs finished second with a PR of 2748 points, and Koehler finished third with a PR of 2364 points. The women are now third and eighth in school history, respectively. Hannah Cure and Faustyna Karpiesiuk also scored for the team, with Cure finishing fourth and Karpiesiuk finishing eighth. The women scored 20 points for the team in this event.
Deyanneira Colon Maldonado began her weekend of competition by winning the 5000 meter run in 18:46.61. Abby Liesen finished fourth with a new PR of 18:58.56, which is ninth in school history.
Four AU women scored in the mile run. Maldonado led the way, finishing second in 5:09.60. Madison Etheridge, KC McQuaid, and Liesen finished sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.
Maldonado also finished second in the 3000 meter run in a time of 10:34.69. This new PR is fourth in school history. Liesen scored for the Spartans as well with a seventh place finish of 11:00.10. This time is 10th in school history.
Freshman Keyara Bailey placed fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.54 meters.This new PR is the eighth fastest time in school history. Freshman Rebekah Hannah also scored for the team, placing seventh with a height of 1.49 meters.
Lauren Bliefernicht finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.80, beating the fourth place runner by only 0.02 seconds. Bliefernicht also placed fifth in the 60 meter dash, with a time of 8.10.
Gibbs, Bliefernicht, Etheridge, and Maldonado placed fourth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17.57. 
Freshman N'dya Fields, August Pautsch, Freshman Ana Ponce, and McQuaid placed fourth in the distance medley relay in a time of 13:36.34.
Etheridge scored for the Spartans in the 800 meter run, placing fourth with a time of 2:28.07.
Skylar Gibbs finished sixth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time 9.75.

The women will compete next at the Wartburg NCAA Qualifier in Waverly, Iowa. Competition will begin on Friday, March 3rd.
