Spartans send Elmhurst home with defeat

The Aurora University men's lacrosse team returned to Spartan Athletic Park Wednesday night to host the Bluejays of Elmhurst University. The first half consisted of back and forth action before the Spartans broke the scoring open in the second. AU defeated Elmhurst 10-8 to give the Bluejays their first loss of the season.

How it happened
- After trailing 3-0 early in the first quarter, the Spartans got goals from Carson Leader and Andy Trenary to cut their deficit to one. 
- AU trailed 3-2 after one quarter played.
- The second quarter consisted of back and forth action with a total of six goals scored.
- The Spartans took a 4-3 lead with back to back goals coming from Carson Leader and Tyler Foerstel. 
- Elmhurst responded less than 50 seconds after to tie the game 4-4. 
- With less than four minutes remaining in the half, Owen Spencer found the back of the net to give AU a 5-4 lead. 
- The Bluejays scored one last time before Brody MacDonald gave the Spartans the go ahead goal with 27 seconds remaining in the half. 
- Heading into halftime, AU led 6-5. 
- Carson Leader got the scoring started in the third quarter with two goals to give AU a 8-5 lead with 5:30 remaining in the quarter. 
- The Bluejays tallied a lone goal while AU Ben Strub and Carson Leader scored late in the quarter. 
- Elmhurst added two goals in the fourth to round out the scoring.
- AU goaltender Phillip Gianelle had 24 saves on night, many of them in huge moments.
- The Spartans were victorious 10-8.
