Spartans drop day two of 2023 spring trip

The Aurora University softball team dropped the second day doubleheader on the spring trip, falling 11-3 (6 inn.) to Johnson and Wales University and 7-6 to Fontbonne University.

How it happened
Game One vs. Johnson & Wales University 
- The Wildcats got out to an early 3-0 lead in the opening frame on three hits. 
- A solo home run to left center from freshman Kionna King got the Spartans on the board in the bottom of the second.
- In the top of third, the Wildcats would add two to take a 5-1 lead.
- With two outs in the bottom of the third, Shelby Linn singled to center field to score Lexi Rayborn who reached on a double. 
- Johnson & Wales would add two and led 7-2 in the top of the fifth. 
- Spartan Delilah Aguirre responded with a solo bomb to center field. 
- The Wildcats would go on to add four runs and AU fell 11-3.

How it happened
Game Two vs. Fontbonne University 
- The Spartan bats came alive in game two. To start the top of the first, Tyler Chambers singled to right field followed by a double from Jemma Fiehweg.
- With two outs, Delilah Aguirre hit an RBI double to right field to score Lexi Rayborn who reached on a fielder's choice. AU took a 1-0 lead.
- A scoreless frame from Riley Campbell in the bottom half of the inning, set up the offense to add four runs on three hits and two outs.
- Tyler Chambers hit an RBI single to score Faith Biggs who reached on a walk. Chambers came around to score on a Fiehweg single and Kionna King followed with a two-run home run, her second of the day. The Spartans lead 5-0 in the top of the second. 
- The Griffins manufactured single runs in the second and third to cut their deficit 5-2.
- In the top of the fifth, the Spartans added one when Fiehweg reached via hit by pitch and would later score on an Aguirre single to center field. 
- Fontbonne produced three runs on four hits and a Spartan error to make it a one run game.
- In the bottom of the sixth, the Spartans found themselves in a jam when Fontbonne rallied and took a 7-6 lead. 
- AU threatened in the top of the seventh, but was unable to push a run across would fall by one.
