Spartans open D3Week with sweep of Sabres

The Aurora University softball team returned home to Bedrosian Stadium with a NACC doubleheader against Marian University. The Spartans completed the conference sweep, winning game one 5-3 and game two 9-1 (5 inn.)

How it happened
Game One 
- The Spartans got on the scoreboard quickly with a lead-off triple from Jemma Fiehweg who scored on a sac fly from Lexi Rayborn.
- In the third the Spartans got four singles and had the bases loaded with just one out but would leave them stranded and a 2-0 lead.
- Marian scored one run in the fourth as AU and Madelyn Buske maintained a 2-1 lead.
- A Marian error and three two-out singles in the fifth allowed AU to score two runs and lead 4-1.
- Kionna King and Alex Thiel had the run scoring hits in the frame.
- In the fifth, Kionna King made a tremendous over the should catch and with a Sabre on first, turned and fired a throw to Lexi Rayborn at first for the double-play.
- Fiehweg was hit by pitch to lead off the sixth and scored on a King double for a 5-1 AU lead.
- Marian scored two runs in the seventh but AU won 5-3.

How it happened
Game Two 
- In the second, the Spartans offense scored four runs. Ashley Talaga and Alex Thiel had back to back singles to start the inning. Faith Biggs followed and laid a bunt down to make it bases loaded. With one out Jordan Seyfried stepped to the plate and singled to score pitch runner Reese Pozen and Thiel.
- Jemma Fiehweg brought around Biggs to score after laying down a sac bunt. With two outs, Tyler Chambers kept the inning alive and added another run scoring pitch runner Emma Bachio on a single up the middle. 
- Marian would score their only run of the game in the top of the third. 
- AU responded in the bottom half, adding one after a Muskie error allowed Alex Thiel to score, who reached on an infield single. 
- The Spartans continued to chip away and added one in the fourth. A single from Lexi Rayborn scored Jordan Seyfried in that frame.
- With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, the Spartans pushed three runs across to end the game. Thiel led off the inning with a single to right field and would later score on a single from Seyfried. A triple from Jemma Fiehweg scored Seyfried and Tyler Chambers brought in Fiehweg with a single up the middle. 
- AU won 9-1 in the run rule ended game.

Next scheduled action for the Spartan softball team comes on Wednesday, April 12 when they are scheduled to host Elmhurst University. First-pitch of the non-conference doubleheader is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Bedrosian Stadium in Montgomery, Illinois.
