Spartans fight off Raiders for NACC sweep

The Aurora University Spartan baseball team returned north to Wisconsin to battle the Raiders of Milwaukee School of Engineering. The Spartans were victorious in the NACC sweep, winning 6-3 and 9-1.

How it happened
GAME ONE
- AU fell behind 2-0 on a two-run home run for MSOE in the first.
- In the second, Brenden Naylor doubled to score Josh Reinhardt to cut the deficit to 2-1.
- As starter Jack Fisher got settled in and started setting down the Raiders quietly, the AU bats turned up the heat in the sixth.
- Three singles, a walk and two MSOE errors led to four AU runs.
- Brenden Naylor drove in his second and third runs of the game with a single in the sixth.
- MSOE scored once in the bottom of the inning with two doubles.
- In the ninth, Sean Rivera manufactured an insurance run, walking, stealing second, moving to third on a wild pitch and scoring on a single from Dominick Curcio.
- Fisher set down the Raiders in order in the ninth for the 6-3 AU win.

How it happened
GAME TWO
- The Spartans once again took advantage of MSOE defensive blunders scoring three times in the second, aided by a pair of errors and three singles.
- The three runs were all Justin Zimmerman would need to improve his record to 6-0 on the season.
- He tossed 7-2/3 innings allowing just one run for the victory.
- In the fourth, Brenden Naylor would double and eventually score following a couple walks for a 4-0 AU lead.
- AU added another run in the fifth with a lead-off ground rule double by Justin Sartori. He would later score on a sac fly from Jett Wedekind.
- Dominick Curcio plated a pair of runs for AU in the sixth with a two-run home run and a 7-0 AU lead.
- AU narrowly missed bringing the run rule into play in the eighth with one out singles from Spencer Ruch and Sean Rivera. The two would score on a single from Curcio and AU led 9-0.
- MSOE broke up the shutout effort for Zimmerman in the bottom of the eighth, scoring once and Sam Harvey came on in relief.
- Harvey set down the four hitters he faced in the eighth and ninth to close the door on the Raiders and a 9-1 AU win.
