Aurora University Athletics and the Spartan baseball team celebrated the highly successful 2023 senior class after a doubleheader sweep of Dominican University on Saturday afternoon. AU won 5-1 and 13-0 (7 innings).

GAME ONE
- AU starter
Jack Fisher was perfect through the first four innings of work and would toss a complete game with 13 strikeouts, allowing one run and scattering seven hits.
- While Fisher was throwing up zero's, the Spartan bats took advantage of a Dominican defensive miscue in the third inning.
Jacob Ambuel walked and
Justin Sartori was hit by a pitch and both would score when
Jett Wedekind reached on an outfield error and a 2-0 lead.
- In the fifth the Spartans added another run with a ground-rule double by Sartori and he scored on a single from
Josh Reinhardt.
- The game remained 3-0 into the eighth when Reinhardt struck again with a lead-off solo shot.Â

Dominick Curcio followed with a single and later scored on a
Nick Baldassano single and a 5-0 Spartans lead.
- Dominican got a solo homer in the ninth but Fisher set down the last three hitters including the final out for his 13th strikeout of the game.
- AU won 5-1.

GAME TWO
- The Spartans gave starter
Justin Zimmerman a three-run lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run single from
Derek Angelo doing damage.
- Zimmerman would toss six scoreless, four hit innings while striking out six for his eighth win of the year.
- AU blew the game wide open in the third with the scoring starting with a one-out blast over the center field fence from
Justin Sartori. Singles from
Jett Wedekind,
Josh Reinhardt and
Sean Rivera followed with Rivera driving in Wedekind. After a Dominican pitching change and with two-outs,
Dominick Curcio cleared the bases with a triple to right.
- AU led 8-0 after three innings.
- Another run was added in the fourth with a two-out walk to Wedekind and he scored from second on a single to right from Rivera.
- In the fifth,
Nico Bermeo hit a two-run homer to score
Collin Meinert, Sartori one out later hit his second homer of the game for a 12-0 lead.
- After a walk to
Tyler Patton,
Jon Wray collected his first career hit and rbi, a triple down the right-field line and the Spartans led 13-0.
- In the sixth inning, AU called to the bench once more for senior
Nick Heiden for a pinch hit. Heiden would take his hacks and struck out in his first AU at bat.
- Senior Tyler Priessing tossed a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts to seal the 13-0 run rule victory.
