Aurora University Spartan baseball swept the top honors in Region 8 when the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced the 2023 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region teams and Regional Players of the Year in all 10 regions. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee.

Senior infielder Justin Sartori was named the Region 8 Position Player of the Year and junior pitcher Jack Fisher was named the Region 8 Pitcher of the Year. Both Sartori and Fisher were selected as First-Team All-Region and were joined by senior outfielder Jacob Ambuel and junior pitcher Justin Zimmerman. 

ABCA/Rawlings 2023 All-Region Teams 

Just one day after earning Second-Team All-Region honors by D3baseball.com, Sartori and Fisher earned the top Region honor and First-Team from the ABCA. Sartori finished the 2023 campaign with a .389 batting average, 13 home runs, one triples, 17 doubles, 52 runs scored and 65 runs batted in while finishing with a .682 slugging, .474 on-base, 1.156 OPS and .994 fielding percentage. Fisher was AU's game one starter throughout the 2023 season and finished with a 9-1 record, two saves and four complete games with a shutout. In a team-leading 88 innings pitched he tied the AU single season record with 104 strikeouts and opponents hit just .232 against.

Ambuel and Zimmerman earned first-team honors from both the ABCA and D3baseball.com after being cogs in the Spartan offensive and pitching attack. Ambuel finished the 2023 season hitting .364 with 16 doubles, a triple and eight home runs while scoring 61 runs and driving in 60. He had a .561 slugging, .429 on-base and .990 OPS. Zimmerman finished his first season as a Spartans with a 10-2 record and a 3.32 earned run average. In 78-2/3 innings pitched he struck out 86 and opponents hit .262 against.

The Spartans finished the 2023 season with a record setting 42-6 overall record, made the 25th appearance overall and fifth consecutive NCAA Division III Regional appearance. The Spartans won the Aurora Regional and advanced to the NCAA Super Regional. AU earned their place in the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships after winning the 2023 Northern Athletics Conference Conference (NACC) regular season and tournament championships.
