AU sweeps NACC All-Sports Awards

Aurora University is the recipient of both Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) All-Sports Awards for the 2022-2023 academic year. The awards are indicative of a program's overall excellence across all league sports.

The Spartans captured the women's title for the eighth time while taking home the men's title for the 10th time in the NACC's 16 seasons of awarding the All-Sports Trophy. It is the eighth time a single institution has swept both All-Sports Awards with six of the times being done by the Spartans. In the history of the NACC, AU has won 18 total All-Sports Awards (out of 32 awarded).

NACC schools are awarded points for each sport's finish in the regular-season conference standings and in conference tournament finishes. The women's standings use a 17-point base while the men's standings use a 16-point base. Complete NACC All-Sports Award Standings.

The NACC completed its 17th season of competition in spring of 2023. The NACC consists of 14 colleges and universities from the shared-border states of Illinois and Wisconsin. Member schools include: Alverno College, Aurora University, Benedictine University, Concordia University Chicago, Concordia University Wisconsin, Dominican University,  Edgewood College, Illinois Institute of Technology, Lakeland University, Marian University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Rockford University, St. Norbert Ciollege and Wisconsin Lutheran College. The NACC sponsors 19 sports. Men's teams include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field and volleyball. Women's squads are fielded in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and volleyball.

WOMEN
AU compiled a 14.000 index (126.0 points), defeating runner-up St. Norbert College 13.000 (117.0) points and Concordia University Wisconsin's 12.950 (129.5) points. The Spartans captured four league regular-season titles (cross country, golf, volleyball, and lacrosse) and two tournament titles (volleyball and lacrosse) during 2022-2023 years. AU had second-place finishes in indoor track, third place in outdoor track and basketball and a fourth place finish in softball. 

MEN
AU compiled a 13.100 index (131.0 points), winning six NACC championship in football, soccer, volleyball, golf, baseball and lacrosse while finishing third in cross country and indoor track and field and fourth in outdoor track and field. The Spartans also claimed tournament titles in soccer, baseball and lacrosse. MSOE (11.950) was a distant second with St. Norbert (10.500) in third.

SPARTAN NACC ACCOLADES
The on-field success brought post-season honors from the NACC for numerous AU coaches and players too. Seven male student-athletes and five female student-athletes were named NACC Player of the Year in their respective sports, one student-athletes were named NACC Freshman of the Year, and five AU head coaches were named NACC Coach of the Year in six sports.
 
Spartans named NACC Player of the Year were senior Sydnei Avery (women's volleyball), senior Kallie Sakamoto (women's golf), senior Bailey Simpson (women's lacrosse - offense), senior Jalyn Yaukovitz (women's lacrosse - defense), senior Monique Gibson (women's lacrosse - midfield), senior Phillip Gianelle (men's lacrosse - defense), senior Josh Swanson (football - offense), senior James Karwin (men's volleyball), junior Justin Zimmerman (baseball - pitcher), junior Marcellus Romious (football - defense) and junior Steven Tinsley (outdoor track and field).
 
The Spartan who received NACC Freshman of the Year honors was Eli Etzler (men's lacrosse). 
 
NACC Coach of the Year awards were given to Don Beebe (football), Justin Wyeth (men's and women's golf), Alex Lowe (women's cross country), Adam Stevens (baseball) and Christina Fried (women's lacrosse).
