Janiak and Ramirez set tone for strong day for Spartans at NCWWC Championship

Aurora University Spartan women's wrestling had a strong day on day one of the 2023-2024 NCWWC National Championship Tournament hosted in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. AU collected 30.5 team points and is in 11th place after day one with two Spartans, Alexis Janiak and Genesis Ramirez in position to be All-Americans and secure strong individual finishes.

How it happened
- Alexis Janiak scored 12.0 team points for the Spartans with a pair of tech falls including a 12-2 win over Salome Walker from North Central.
- Janiak will wrestle in the Championship semi-final in her first match on Saturday.
- Genesis Ramirez was the AU story of the day despite dropping a match in round two of the championship bracket.
- Ramirez won three matches in the blood round (consolation bracket) and with a fall in her third match over Corredor from King, Ramirez is guaranteed a top eight finish.
- She will continue her quest in the consolation bracket tomorrow morning.
- Five Spartan women took to the mat on the day for AU.
- Mia Moore (109), Tasha Markoutsis (136) and Sydney Manos (191) all had strong showings but would bow out in the consolation round wrestle back.
- Markoutsis collected 5.5 team points with a 3-2 record in her first championship event appearance.
- Manos collected 4.0 team points in her first championship event appearance.
