Spartans overmatch Concordia University Chicago

The Aurora University baseball team kept their win-streak rolling when they traveled to Concordia University Chicago for a Wednesday afternoon twin bill. AU picked up a couple of more Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victories over the Cougars by a score of 3-1 and 12-8, as the Spartans saw their win total reach 20 for the 2024 season.

How it happened
Game One:
- The second batter of the game Joe Lukancic went the opposite way for a double, but AU was unable to scratch across a run in the first.
- AU starter Adrian Ruiz did not allow a hit until the third, as the game remained scoreless through three innings.
- The Cougars scored one run in the fourth inning for a 1-0 lead.
- Ruiz worked his way out of another jam in the bottom of the fifth to keep the Spartan deficit at 1-0.
- After a lead off Lukancic double in the top of the sixth, a Logan Riley single brought AU their first run of the game.
- Nico Bermeo came through in the top of the seventh with a bloop two-run double that scored Tyler Patton and Dominick Curcio. This gave AU a 3-1 lead.
- Sam Harvey came on for Ruiz in the sixth and finished off the Cougars in the seventh for the 3-1 game one victory for the Spartans.
Game Two:
- A bases clearing triple for Curcio in the first inning of game two gave AU the early 3-0 lead.
- The Cougars picked up one run in the second and one in the third to trim AU's lead to 3-2.
- Patton answered back right away in the fourth with a lead off homer for a 4-2 Spartan lead.
- Bermeo singled home Sean Rivera later in the inning to make it 5-2 after four.
- The Cougars scored two runs of their own in the fifth to trail 5-4.
- In the top of the seventh, Patton singled home Curcio for a 6-4 AU lead.
- The Spartans took a 8-4 lead a few batters later when Lukancic singled home two more runs.
- The hosts scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the AU lead to 8-7.
- AU answered back with three runs of their own in the eighth, starting with a Curcio run scoring two bagger.
- Spencer Ruch singled home Curcio to make it 10-7.
- Patton came around to score on a Bermeo ground out to give AU the 11-7 lead after eight innings of play.
- After the Cougars scored a run in the eighth, Curcio continued his strong day at the plate with another RBI single.
- This helped allow the Spartans to cruise to the 12-8 victory in game two.
