This Week In AU Athletics: September 30 - October 6

As September comes to a close and October quickly approaches, AU athletics find itself coming off a successful homecoming weekend that saw the football and men's soccer team ease their way to conference victories, as well as win over a ranked opponent for the women's volleyball team. As for this week, here are the Spartan teams to look out for:

Men's Golf 
The AU men's golf team is in the midst of the Blue Devil Invite that started on Sunday in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The Spartans find themselves in second-place after shooting nine-over as a team in Sunday's first round. as Mattias Morris and Christian Wakeford each fired even par to lead the Spartans. They only trail the hosts University of Wisconsin-Stout by one stroke coming into Monday's final round. AU last competed in the Folds of Honor Challenge two weeks ago, where they took second-place.

Women's Golf
The AU women's golf team takes the course on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. for the opening round of three at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship at St. Andrews Golf Course in West Chicago. The Spartans will be looking to capture their fourth consecutive NACC Championship and are fresh off a third-place finish in the NCAA Midwest Regional a little over a week ago.

Men's Soccer (4-3-3, 3-0-1)
The AU men's soccer team will be looking to keep things rolling in a couple of road conference matches this week, starting at Rockford University on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. AU took care of the Regents in both matches they played against them last season by a combined score of 8-1, as they come in with a 1-8 record and with a 1-3 showing in conference. The Spartans will travel to Lakeland University in Plymouth, Wisconsin, on Friday night with that match scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Spartans handled the Muskies in their only match last year 5-1, as they sit with a 2-7 record and 1-3 record in the NACC.

Last Week By The Numbers:
- AU beat Concordia Chicago 7-0, the most goals the Spartans have scored in a match this season.
- Branden Dolezal had a hat-trick, while Josue Roman had two goals and three assists.
- The Spartans also beat Marian 4-1 on Homecoming.
- Enrique Gonzalez netted a hat-trick in the win.

Women's Soccer (1-8-1, 0-3-1) 
The AU women's soccer team will also take on Rockford University at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday after the men's match. AU beat the Regents 4-0 last year, as they come in at 3-6-1 on the year and are winless in conference. The Spartans will then travel to Lakeland University for a 5:30 p.m. match, as AU beat the Muskies in their Homecoming match last year 3-0. Lakeland is also winless in conference thus far and is 1-5-2 on the season.

Last Week By The Numbers: 
- AU fell to Concordia Chicago 4-1.
- The Spartans then battled Marian to a 2-2 draw
- Lauren Bliefernicht and McKenna Kunz each netted a goal for AU.

Women's Volleyball (8-9, 2-0) 
Like the soccer teams, the AU women's volleyball team will take on Rockford University in their first match of this week. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m in Thorton Gymnasium, as the Spartans welcome a 5-3 Rockford squad with an 0-2 showing in conference. AU will then host Lakeland University on Saturday for the Dig Pink match starting at 1:00 p.m. The Muskies hold a 4-13 record and 2-0 record in the NACC. AU swept these squads 3-0 when they played them in back-to-back matches last year as well.

Last Week By The Numbers: 
- AU beat IIT 3-1 as Kate Poellmann led the squad with 15 kills.
- The Spartans swept #17 ranked Gustavus Adolphus behind 14 kills from Lulu Torres.
- AU fell to Wisconsin-Plattville 3-1.

Men's Cross Country 
The AU men's cross country team will take the course on Friday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terra Haute, Indiana. Race time is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. after the women's race. The Spartans last competed competed at Wheaton College on Sep. 21 where they took ninth place out of 18 teams. Sam Brown led the Spartans that day with a 31st place finish.

Women's Cross Country
The AU women's cross country team will take the course on Friday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terra Haute, Indiana. Race time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Spartans last competed at Wheaton College on Sep. 21 where they took fifth out of 24 teams. Deedee Colon Maldonado finished first that day, 14 seconds ahead of the next closest runner.

Football (3-1, 2-0) 
The AU football team will travel to Wisconsin Lutheran College for their first road game in three weeks. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 1:00 p.m. where the Spartans look to remain perfect in the NACC during the Don Beebe head coaching era. AU beat the Warriors 70-7 last year, as they come in with a 3-1 record and perfect 2-0 showing in conference this season.

Last Week By The Numbers:
- AU is coming off a 72-6 Homecoming victory over Concordia Chicago.
- The Spartans put up 541 yards of total offense while limiting the Cougars to 93 yards total.
- Tyler Adkins finished with six touchdowns thrown.
- JP Chaney and Jaylen Jordan each finished with two sacks for the Spartans.
