Spartans kickoff 2025 season with victory over Illinois Weselyan

The Aurora University men's volleyball team began the 2025 season in grand fashion with a three-set victory over the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan University. The Spartan offense was powered by Josh McLellan who registered 12 kills on a .500 hitting percentage to lead AU on Thursday night in Thornton Gymnasium.

How it happened
- AU started off their opener with an early 6-2 lead in the first set, highlighted by a couple of McLellan kills.
- The Spartans later took a 15-8 lead about halfway through the opening set after a Logan Brouwer ace.
- With the score sitting at 21-16, AU rattled off four-straight points to take the first set.
- AU finished with a whopping .407 attack percentage in the first set, comitting only three attack errors.
- Similar to the first set, AU got out to a commanding 7-3 lead in the second.
- Ammar Brzovic registered a kill and an ace for the Spartans during that span.
- AU would later hold a 17-12 lead later in the second frame, before scoring five-straight points to hold a 22-12 lead.
- Connor Carroll finished off the Titans in the second set hammering one of his four kills in the match.
- The Spartans only comitted two attack errors in the second set to help get them out to a 2-0 match lead.
- AU didn't let their foot off the break, grabbing an 11-1 third set lead.
- Solomon Dail and McLellan each had a kill during that span, while the Spartans took advantage of some Titan attack errors.
- This helped the Spartans finish with a 25-12 third set win and 3-0 match victory.
- AU had another 10 kills during that third set, while only committing two attack errors.
