The Aurora University Women's Track and Field team competed in the Aurora Grand Prix at the Gately Indoor Track and Field in Chicago, Ill.
The Spartans had a strong showing in their sole home meet of the season, placing fourth out of 15 teams with 56 points. That was the third highest point total of Division III schools.
Deedee Colon Maldonado opened her season in a big way on the track, racing the Mile and 3,000-meter. In the Mile, she finished in second place with a time of 4:52.70, breaking her own school record by almost 4 seconds. She then came back later to win the 3,000-meter in 9:47.32. She won the race by over 30 seconds. She is now ranked second nationally in the mile, and fourth nationally in the 3,000-meter.Â
Marisa Janecek had an impressive day in the weight throw, winning the event and tying her personal best with a mark of 13.33m.
N'Dya Fields raced to a victory in the 5,000-meter with a time of 19:02.51.
Lauren Bliefernicht finished sixth in the 60-meter in 7.94 seconds, and followed that up with a fifth place finish in the 200-meter later in the meet. She ran a season best time of 25.54 seconds.
