Spartans Set Multiple Top Ten Marks In Last Tune-Up Before NACC Championships

The Aurora University Men's Track and Field team competed in the F. Lee Slick Invitational hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Ill.

The Spartans had a strong showing on the track and in the field, scoring many heat wins and setting many personal bests and top-10 marks.

Armando Acosta set a new school record in the 3,000-meter. His time of 8:50.21 bests the previous record by almost three seconds. That record stood for nearly 11 years. He ran a strong, consistent race and closed in a gutsy 31.09s lap, the quickest final lap in the entire field. His effort scored him an eighth place finish in the race.

Aurora's throwers had a big day in the field. Steven Tinsley won the shot put with a personal best throw of 16.32m. He now sits at 16th in the nation in the event. Nick Tannhauser threw 13.23m, finishing sixth in the event. Tinsley then finished second in the weight throw, throwing 17.20m. Isaiah Conteh finished ninth in the weight throw with a personal best throw of 14.48m.

Ethan Taylor sprinted to an impressive finish in the 60-meter finals. He finished fourth in 6.97s, a time that moves him to second in school history.

Jahrel Rimpel lowered his 200-meter personal best to 22.94s, tying the ninth fastest time in school history. His time was good for an eighth place finish.

Liam Evans raced himself onto the top-10 list in the mile running 4:28.06 and finishing twelfth. He is now tenth in school history in the event.

Up next, the Spartans will compete in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship at University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, WI on Friday, February 28.
