Spartans Split Home Opener With Alma

The Aurora University softball team took the field at Bedrosian Stadium for the first time in 2025 on Saturday afternoon, as the Spartans took on the Scots of Alma College in doubleheader. AU narrowly took game one behind a three-hit performance from Mia Rivera, before falling in game two by a score of 12-2.

How it happened
Game One
- AU didn't waste any time taking a 1-0 lead in the first, as Faith Biggs laid down a bunt that allowed her to reach and score Mia Rivera.
- In the bottom of the second, the Spartans loaded the bases for Rivera, who singled through the left side to score Carly Clemens and make it 2-0.
- The Spartans scored two more the next batter off an Alma error, making it 4-0 in favor of AU heading into the third inning.
- AU added another in the third when Clemens ripped an RBI double into the left-center gap, scoring Alex Thiel and making it 5-0.
- Alma scored two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the AU lead to 5-2 heading into the fifth inning.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Nina Richards put down a bunt that allowed her to reach and score Aubrey Ortiz.
- This made it 6-2 in favor of the Spartans, before Alma added two more in the top of the fifth to make it 6-4.
- Alma scored one in their half of the seventh and threatened to tie or take the lead from the Spartans, but AU pitcher Katelyn Serafin finished off the Scots for the 6-5 game one victory.

Game Two
- The Scots scored the first run of game two to take a 1-0 lead in the first.
- Alma added five more in the second to take a 6-0 lead over the Spartans.
- AU got on the board in the second when Serafin smoked an RBI triple, scoring Angie Delgado.
- In the bottom of the third, Richards singled through the right side to score Ortiz and cut the AU deficit to 6-2.
- The Scots added six more runs in the sixth inning to eventually win game two by a score of 12-2.
