Spartans Sweep St. Mary’s with Strong Offensive Performance

The Aurora University softball team secured a doubleheader sweep over St. Mary's (Ind.) on Tuesday at Bedrosian Stadium, rallying for a 9-7 victory in Game 1 before cruising to an 8-2 win in Game 2.

How it happened
Game One
- St. Mary's came out strong, scoring four runs in the first inning on a pair of RBI hits, including a two-run double. The Belles tacked on three more in the third to build a 7-2 advantage.  
- The Spartans responded in a big way in the fourth inning, plating five runs to even the score. Stephani DeBise sparked the rally with an RBI double, followed by run-scoring hits from Faith Biggs and Mia Rivera. Angie Delgado delivered the game-tying two-run single to cap the comeback.  
- Aurora took the lead for good in the sixth when Carly Clemens singled home Alex Thiel, and Katelyn Serafin added an RBI single for an insurance run.  
- After an early challenge, Serafin dominated in relief, tossing 4.2 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out two to earn the win.  

Game Two
- St. Mary's struck first, plating two runs in the opening inning off back-to-back RBI doubles. The Spartans responded immediately, tying the game 2-2 in the bottom half on a sacrifice bunt by Faith Biggs and a sac fly from Alex Thiel.  
-  Aurora took control in the fourth inning when Katelyn Serafin tripled and scored on an error, bringing home Angie Delgado for a 4-2 lead.
- The Spartans then broke the game open in the fifth with a four-run frame, highlighted by a two-run single from Delgado and a two-run homer from Stephani DeBise.  
- Madelyn Buske was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just two runs on eight hits with no walks. She retired 12 batters via groundouts and needed only 67 pitches to secure the win.
