Spartans Split Twin Bill With Elmhurst

The Aurora University softball team played host for another non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, this time against the BlueJays of Elmhurst University. AU's offense exploded for nine runs in a 9-3 game one win backed by a strong performance in the circle from Madelyn Buske, before falling in game two by a score of 6-4.

How it happened
Game One
- AU took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom-of-the-second when Stephani DeBise went the other way for a two-run double.
- Elmhurst answered back in their half of the third with two runs to tie the score heading into the bottom-of the-third.
- Mia Rivera ripped a triple to right field that scored Aubrey Ortiz in the third to make it 3-2 in favor of the Spartans, right before Rivera came around to score on a Nina Richards ground out making it 4-2.
- Later in the third, Carly Clemens doubled to center and scored Alex Thiel making it 5-2 in favor of AU.
- In the bottom-of the-fourth, Ortiz found a hole on the left side that scored DeBise and gave AU a 6-2 lead.
- The BlueJays scored one run in the fifth to cut the Spartan lead to 6-3.
- Rivera started another AU rally in the sixth when she reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Lily Komperda.
- Nina Richards ripped a double down the left field line later in the sixth to give the Spartans a 9-3 advantage.
- Madelyn Buske finished off the BlueJays in the seventh for a complete game in the circle for the Spartans after giving up just three runs, one of which was earned.

Game Two
- Elmhurst got out to an early 1-0 lead after the top of the first, before the Spartans answered back in their half of the first when a Faith Biggs ground out scored Aubrey Ortiz.
- In the top of the third, the BlueJays scored three runs to take a 4-1 lead.
- In the top of the fifth, Elmhurst stretched their lead to 6-1.
- AU got one back in the bottom of the fifth when Alex Thiel singled through the left side to score Biggs.
- Stephani DeBise led-off the AU half of the sixth with a solo bomb, before Biggs launched a triple off the centerfield wall that scored Rivera making it 6-4 in favor of the Bluejays.
- Elmhurst would hold off AU in their half of the seventh to hand the Spartans the 6-4 loss.
