Spartans Rebound In Game Two Against CUC

The Aurora University baseball team returned to Jim Schmid Field on Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader against the Cougars of Concordia University Chicago, after the twin bill was rescheduled from yesterday to Thursday afternoon. In a couple of low scoring games, AU fell in the opener 2-1, before rebounding for a 3-1 game two victory.

How it happened
Game One
- AU had runners in scoring position in their half of the first with Kyle Mack and Dominick Curcio on second and third, but were unable to scratch across any runs.
- AU starter Justin Zimmerman did not give up his first hit until the top-of-the third, as each team sat scoreless through three innings.
- The Cougars did take the game's first lead with one run in the fifth.
- Logan Riley came across to score and tie the game at one following an errant throw from the Cougars in the bottom-of-the sixth.
- CUC re-took their one run lead in the top-of-the ninth, leaving the Spartans one final chance to scratch across another run.
- AU had their side retired in order in the ninth, resulting in a 2-1 loss for the Spartans.

Game Two
- CUC led off the game with a solo homer, taking an early 1-0 lead.
- AU answered back in their half of the second when Nick Czarnecki came across to score on a Julian Rosales ground out.
- The Spartans loaded the bases in the bottom-of-the fourth, as Czarnecki came around to score again on a Spencer Ruch sac-fly.
- This helped give AU their first lead of the day at 2-1 going into the fifth.
- AU starter Conner Hogan settled in by not allowing any more runs as the game entered the late innings.
- Jaden Holgado added insurance for the Spartans in their half of the eighth when he blasted a single up the middle that scored Matthew Washington.
- Hogan remained in the game for AU, finishing off the Cougars in order in the ninth to earn the one run complete game.
