Richardson leads five Spartans earning NACC postseason honors

The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) announced the 2025-2026 men's basketball Divisional All-Conference awards. All five AU men's basketball starters earned NACC recognition led by junior Devon Richardson who was named the NACC Defensive Player of the Year.

Richardson was joined by teammate Juan Madrigal as a First-Team All-Conference selection while fellow Spartans Jeffery Hillmer, Cullen Rauls and Mekhi Doby were all named Second-Team All-Conference.

Richardson earned the top defensive honor while currently averaging 14.9 points and 11.3 rebounds per game, while shooting a blistering 66.9 percent (160-of-239) from the field and posting 12 double-doubles.

Richardson has established himself as one of the top big men in NCAA Division III this season, ranking in the top 10 nationally in field goal percentage (third), rebounds (sixth, 294), offensive rebounds (ninth, 3.92 per game), and rebounding average (10th). He currently leads the NACC in blocks (41), blocks per game (1.58), field goal percentage, and offensive rebounds, ranks second in double-doubles, total rebounds, defensive rebounds (7.38 rpg), and rebounds per game, and fourth in field goals (160).

Richardson has scored in double figures 19 times, posting 20 points or more on eight occasions. His high-water mark for points came on Feb. 11 when he dropped 34 against Rockford on 13-of-17 shooting. He also pulled down 18 rebounds and blocked three shots against the Regents. Richardson was also dominant on the boards, recording 10 or more rebounds 17 times, including a NACC season-high 19 against Concordia Wisconsin on Dec. 14.

Richardson is the second AU player to be named NACC Defensive Player of the Year. Kyle Pilmer was named NACC Defensive Player of the Year following the 2014-2015 season.

Madrigal earned the First-Team All-Conference honor while averaging 16.7 points per game and shooting 46.2-percent (146-316) from the field and 82.0-percent (100-122) from the free-throw line.

Hillmer was selected as a Second-Team member as he is averaging 11.9 points on .611 shooting from the field while pulling down 5.8 rebounds per game.

Doby was selected as a Second-Team member as he is averaging 13.7 points on .457 shooting from the field while pulling down 4.8 rebounds per game and had a team-leading 3.0 assists per contest.

Rauls was selected as a Second-Team member as he is averaging 14.5 points on .443 shooting from the field while dishing out 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals per contest.
