Aurora University Athletics in conjunction with BSN Sports proudly announces the recipients of the BSN Spartan Athletes of the Week award. The honors are earned based on the student-athletes performances on their respective playing surface the previous week.
This week's honors go to AU student-athletes, senior
Alexis Janiak of women's wrestling and junior
Mekhi Doby of men's basketball.
Alexis Janiak, women's wrestling -Â
Janiak earned the honor after she traveled to Zagreb, Croatia for the Zagreb Open as part of Team USA.  A three-time age-group World medalist, Janiak collected silver at 59 kg. at Arena Zagreb. Following a pair of wins in the morning, Janiak was unable to keep the momentum going in the evening session as she lost a 10-0 technical fall to two-time age-group World medalist Japan's Sena Nagamoto. Janiak opened the competition at the Arena Zagreb with an 8-3 decision over veteran international Elena Brugger of Germany. In the semifinals at 59 kg, the reigning U23 World bronze medalist Janiak rolled to an 11-0 tech fall against fellow three-time age group World medalist and 2025 U23 bronze medalist Hiuanai Hurbanova from Azerbaijan. Janiak's silver medal in Zagreb is her second in senior-level international competition following a silver medal at last year's Poland Open.
Mekhi Doby, men's basketball -Â
Doby earned the honor after he was instrumental in an incredible comeback win for the Spartans at Wisconsin Lutheran with AU winning 103-100 in overtime. He went 10-of-17 from the field including three-of-four from three and 7-of-11 from the free-throw line. The win was the 16th straight for the Spartans.
