BSN - Spartan Athletes of the Week

Aurora University Athletics in conjunction with BSN Sports proudly announces the recipients of the BSN Spartan Athletes of the Week award. The honors are earned based on the student-athletes performances on their respective playing surface the previous week.

This week's honors go to AU student-athletes, senior Alexis Janiak of women's wrestling and junior Mekhi Doby of men's basketball.

Alexis Janiak, women's wrestling -
Janiak earned the honor after she traveled to Zagreb, Croatia for the Zagreb Open as part of Team USA.  A three-time age-group World medalist, Janiak collected silver at 59 kg. at Arena Zagreb. Following a pair of wins in the morning, Janiak was unable to keep the momentum going in the evening session as she lost a 10-0 technical fall to two-time age-group World medalist Japan's Sena Nagamoto. Janiak opened the competition at the Arena Zagreb with an 8-3 decision over veteran international Elena Brugger of Germany. In the semifinals at 59 kg, the reigning U23 World bronze medalist Janiak rolled to an 11-0 tech fall against fellow three-time age group World medalist and 2025 U23 bronze medalist Hiuanai Hurbanova from Azerbaijan. Janiak's silver medal in Zagreb is her second in senior-level international competition following a silver medal at last year's Poland Open.

Mekhi Doby, men's basketball -
Doby earned the honor after he was instrumental in an incredible comeback win for the Spartans at Wisconsin Lutheran with AU winning 103-100 in overtime. Doby scored 30 points and helped the Spartans come from down 24 with 8:15 remaining in the game. He went 10-of-17 from the field including three-of-four from three and 7-of-11 from the free-throw line. The win was the 16th straight for the Spartans.
