Game Recap: Baseball |

Top NACC foes split in double header

The Aurora University baseball team headed north to take on Milwaukee School of Engineering in a NACC double header featuring the top two teams in the conference standings to this point. AU got down early in game one but a ninth inning grand slam from Ryan Buck tied the game and would send the game into extras. The Spartans would fall in game one 8-7 in 10 innings, but then turn around and put down the Raiders in game two, only needing 7 innings to win 15-1.

The Basics
Game One Score: Milwaukee School of Engineering 8 , Aurora University 7 - 10 innings

Record: Aurora University 18-10 overall and 11-3 in the NACC, Milwaukee School of Engineering 21-7 overall, 12-2 NACC

How it happened
Game One:
- The Raiders got out to a quick 6-0 commanding lead after three innings.
- AU started to chip away at that lead when Joe Lukancic smacked a two-RBI double down the left-field line. That scored Buck and Holgado.
- MSOE scored once more in the sixth now leading 7-2 late in the ball game.
- The Spartans would take advantage of a Raider error, early in the ninth inning then allowing the bases to become loaded.
- Then it was Jaden Holgado who rocked a single through the left side scoring Zack Tarrant while everyone moved station-to-station.
- Ryan Buck then thrust the team on his back, launching a monster game-tying grand slam home run to right field.
- MSOE was shut down in the bottom of the inning, sending the game into extras.
- Free baseball in the tenth looked to be promising to the Spartans as they loaded the bases with one out. They would come up empty head to play defense.
- The Raiders would eventually load the bases themselves, and hit a sac fly to score the winning run.
- AU fought hard but would fall 8-7 in 10 innings in game one.

Game Two
- Game two would start out much slower, but the pain of defeat would prove to be no match for this powerful Spartan squad.
- The Spartans loaded up the bases for Matthew Washington in the fourth when he singled through the hole on the right side of the infield.
- It was then Lukancic who had a RBI single to left, moving everyone station to station once again.
- A wild pitch would bring in Isaac Goddard and a Tarrant single would score Washington and Lukancic.
- Patton's conference-leading 14th double of the season brought in another run.
- And to cap the huge inning was a Buck sac fly scoring Kyle Mack.
- AU lead 7-0 after four innings.
- Another big inning for the Spartans in the fifth was capped off by a Patton three-RBI homer to grow the AU lead to now 12-0.
- More scoring in the seventh for the Spartans saw the ball put in play and move guys around and eventually home.
- MSOE scored one lonely run in their final chances of the seventh.
- AU took game two personally, winning 15-1, and only needing seven innings.
