AU women tune up for NACC Championship with strong Cougar Invitational

The Aurora University Women's Track and Field team competed in the Cougar Invite hosted by Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, IL this weekend. The Spartans finished third out of 12 teams with 97 points. Illinois Institute of Technology won the meet with 108 points.
 
The Spartan throws squad had a great day in the field, earning two event wins on the day. Paige Chapin won the Shot Put with a strong throw of 10.45m. Marisa Janecek finished close behind in third with a mark of 9.51m. Janecek then came back to win the Discus throw, throwing 34.57m. Chapin also contested this event, finishing fourth with a mark of 30.80m.
 
Aurora's distance crew had an impressive day as well, taking home three of the top four spots in the 1,500-Meter. Emma Jasutis finished runner-up in the event in 5:10.39. Savannah Vasquez followed close behind in 5:22.61 to place third. Anna Green then came in fourth in 5:28.10. Freshman Brenda Aquino also competed in the event, placing sixth in 5:45.17. The 3,000-Meter also saw some Spartan success, as Freshman Samantha Ventura earned a runner-up finish in 11:52.24.
 
The Spartan 4x100-Meter relay team of Victoria Tarpeh, Keyara Bailey, Trinity Stewart, and Kailie Davey claimed victory in their event. They won in a time of 52.60s.
 
Keyara Bailey finished third in the High Jump with a mark of 1.49m. She also finished third in the Long Jump, jumping 4.91m.
 
Up next, the Spartans will compete in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran in Milwaukee, WI. The meet will take place on Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2.
