On behalf of Aurora University, we would like to welcome you to Aurora, Illinois. Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can assist you and your team. We look forward to your team’s visit and wish you a healthy and successful year.

Before you make your trip to Aurora University and the Aurora area, please take the time to read the information below to help make your trip easier.

Aurora University Athletic Training Services:

We will have a certified athletic trainer on site for every event, excluding golf, and our athletic training room, located in the basement of Alumni Hall, will be open for your use1.5 hours prior to each event/game (additional time will be allotted for football). Our staff and facility are available to your team for taping and modality use; we do ask, however, that you provide your own taping supplies. If you are not sending an athletic trainer we ask that you send a prescription from either an ATC or a team physician for all modality treatments. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need assistance prior to your arrival to Aurora University.

Basketball, Football, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Wrestling and Volleyball have competition sites located on our campus. Due to facility restrictions, Baseball, Hockey, Cross-Country, Golf and Track and Field compete off-campus. Modality treatment at the off-site locations is limited to ice only, however, the athletic training room will still be available 1.5 hours before the event. Please plan accordingly if your team needs to use our athletic training room prior to an off-campus competition site and again, don’t hesitate to contact us if we need to make additional arrangements for your team.

The following items are available in our training room or to your team while visiting Aurora University:
· Ice bags, ice cups
· Moist heat
· Warm/cold whirlpool (please call ahead)
· Electrical modalities (e-stim, US, combo unit available)
· General first aid supplies
· Emergency equipment such as splints, spine board, AED
· Biohazard disposal
 · Planned access to EMS

Biohazard disposal, ice, water, and cups/water bottles will be provided on the sidelines during all home games/matches, with the exception of golf. Our team physician and ambulance will be on-site for all home football games; an ambulance will be on-site for all home cross-country meets.

Role of the Aurora University Athletic Training Staff:

In the event of an injury or illness of a student-athlete, coach or other member of the institutional traveling party, the athletic training staff member on-site will assess the nature of the injury/illness and make recommendations for care and treatment. (Since we do not know the qualifications of parents or other friends of your athletic programs, we ask that the Aurora University Athletic Training Staff, in absence of visiting team ATC or Team Physician, be allowed to conduct a thorough assessment of an injured/ill student-athlete.  We advocate for safe participation by all parties involved.) If an AU representative completes the assessment, participation recommendations will be forwarded to the Head Coach for consideration. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the Head Coach to determine further participation of the student-athlete. The Certified Athletic Trainer on-site will contact a member of your staff in the event of an injury/illness that is significant in nature or required the student-athlete to miss a portion of the contest.

Students, whether part of an accredited athletic training program or not, will not be allowed to conduct independent injury assessments or perform any skill beyond that of general first aid. The student is limited to serving as a “first aider” at all times and may only provide services consistent with this designation.

Feel free to contact us if you have questions or if your team has a special need or request.

Sincerely,
Head Athletic Trainer
