The excused absence policy at Aurora University places the majority of the responsibility on the student-athletes. First, identify potential conflicts with classes or labs by comparing your sport schedule with your class schedule. During the first week of class provide your instructors with a copy of your sport schedule, highlighting the potential conflicts. It is generally unacceptable for authorized absences to exceed 20% of the class meetings. In such cases, alternative arrangements, such as a Course by Special Arrangement, may be considered at the discretion of the instructor.
Student-athletes will then confirm with the instructor at least 48 hours prior to the class that they will miss due to an intercollegiate contest. It is recommended that the student receive written confirmation of the request and a statement regarding the work to be made up along with the timetable (this may be left up to the discretion of the instructor). It is the responsibility of the student-athlete to make up the work in the agreed upon time frame.
