Adam Stevens became the Head Coach of the Aurora University baseball program in May of 2014. Prior to the 2019-2020 year, Stevens was named an Assistant Athletic Director for Student Programming.
In his time at AU, Stevens has returned the Spartans back to prominence in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and the national scene. Averaging 35 wins since 2018, the Spartans have played in five consecutive NCAA Regionals, being only one of eleven teams in Division III Baseball to do so. The 42 wins in 2023 is the most in a single season in the illustrious history of AU baseball. The Spartans have ranked in the D3 Baseball Top 25 the last five seasons, reaching as high as fifth under Stevens' leadership. Â
From 2018 through 2023 the Stevens led Spartans have the second highest win percentage among NCAA Division III programs.
The 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023 Spartans advanced to the NCAA Tournament with the 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2023 teams winning the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament to move on to the NCAA Tournament.
Stevens has had five CoSIDA Academic All-America selections with 2018 seeing Jacob Stockman named a First-Team honoree, 2019, Jeff Mayes earned Third-Team honors, in 2022 and 2023 Justin Sartori earned First-Team honors and Jacob Ambuel was a Second-Team selection in 2023..Â
Stevens coached two former Spartan players to sign professional contracts with Major League Organizations. Outfielder AJ Gill during the 2018-2020 seasons before Gill signed a professional contract with the Chicago White Sox in June of 2020. As well as Chris Roycroft, who played from 2016-2019 signing with the Saint Louis Cardinals.Â
In addition to his players' accolades, Stevens added to his trophy case by winning the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season in 2023. Stevens also received the ABCA Region 8 Coach of the Year following the 2022 and 2023 seasons..Â
Stevens became the program's 17th head coach, coming to AU after serving as the head coach at Central College in Pella, Iowa for the past 11 seasons where he had a 253-193 overall record.
In 2012, he led Central to the program’s first outright Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) title in 64 years. That same year he was named the D3baseball.com Central Region Coach of the Year. He also received IIAC Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2012, coached the 2006 Academic All-American of the Year, and had 12 All-Region players and two IIAC Players of the Year throughout his tenure.
Prior to becoming the head coach at Central College, Stevens was an assistant coach at Wabash College for one season in 2003 and served as an administrative assistant with the baseball program at Ball State University in 2002.
Stevens graduated from Morningside College in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. While there he was a four-year starter, played in 110 consecutive games and was a team captain his senior year. He then went on to earn a master’s degree in athletic administration from Ball State University in 2003.
