Brandon Sturman became the Head Coach for the AU track and field program in the summer of 2016 and will continue as an assistant with the cross country program. At the start of the 2015-2016 season he was promoted to head assistant for the AU track and cross country programs. He has served as an assistant coach for the AU track and field program for the 2009-2010 season.
Sturman will lead the AU sprinters and jumpers in addition to his Head Coaching duties.
In his first season, Sturman led the AU women to their fifth straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Indoor Championship while the men finished second. Six Spartans qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.
Prior to coming to AU, Sturman spent two seasons as a football graduate assistant at his alma mater, Valparaiso University. Sturman moved from the field to the sidelines for Valparaiso University as an assistant coach in charge of linebackers to begin the 2006 season. An Honorable Mention All-Pioneer Football League North selection in 2005, Sturman finished his career with the Brown and Gold with 224 tackles, including 16 tackles for loss. He recovered a pair of fumbles, forced three, and picked off two passes, while blocking a pair of kicks in his four years with the Crusaders as a linebacker.
Sturman graduated from Valparaiso in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management and earned his master’s degree in sports administration in May, 2008.
