Jordan Atkins began coaching as a graduate assistant for Aurora University in the fall of 2018.
Atkins came to Aurora from the University of Wisconsin, where he worked under legendary Coach Mick Byrne. During his one-year stint with the Badgers, Atkins coached the men’s Big Ten XC champion and runner-up, an All-American Distance Medley Relay, and a national champion in the 1500m run.
Prior to his time in Madison, Atkins spent the 2017 indoor and outdoor track seasons coaching in Medford, Massachusetts at Tufts University. His tenure with the Jumbos saw seven men’s national qualifiers, including four All-American performances and the national champion in the 5000m. Atkins was also a member of the coaching staff that led Tufts to the 2017 Indoor Division III New England Championship title.
Atkins began his coaching career assisting with the men’s and women’s cross country program at Lawrence University, his alma mater. While coaching for the Vikings, Atkins worked with the Midwest Conference XC champion and the Midwest Conference XC Freshman of the Year. Both athletes also earned All-Academic status by the USTFCCCA.
As a prep growing up in Illinois, Atkins ran cross country and track for the Highland Park Giants. He graduated in 2016 from Lawrence University with a B.A. in Geology. Atkins is currently working towards his Master’s in Business Administration at Aurora.
