Laura Starkey joined the Spartan softball program as an assistant coach in 2005. Starkey came to AU after one season as an assist at Judson College (2004). She graduated from Judson College in 2001 with a degree Business Management.
As an athlete, Starkey played both basketball and softball at Harvard High School and Judson College. At Judson, Starkey was a four-year starter in softball and was named to the NCCAA All-Region Team (as a Junior and Senior) to the CCAC (Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference) All-Conference Team, CCAC All-Tournament Team and team captain and team MVP as a Senior. At Harvard, she was a four-year starter in softball and was named to the Big Northern All-Conference Team and a team captain, as a Junior and Senior as well as named the team MVP as a Senior. A two-sport athlete, Starkey was named to the Big Northern All-Conference Team as well as a team captain as senior in basketball.
