Aurora University football swept the weekly Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week Awards for the week ending October 7, 2012.
The three Spartans, junior defensive lineman Michael Bajc (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano), senior quarterback Jimmy Bevell (Scottsdale, Ariz./Arcadia) and junior kicker Fernando Albarran (Oak Lawn, Ill./Reavis) captured the awards after the Spartans 41-30 win over Benedictine University.
In the win, Bajc scored a defensive touchdown, a 44-yard fumble return, while Bevell finished the day 18-of-24 for 293 yards passing, with three touchdowns and two interceptions. The senior quarterback's big first half (11-of-14 for 213 yards) propelled AU to a 28-7 first-half lead.
Albarran was perfect on the afternoon as he was five-for-five on extra-points and two-for-two on field goals. The junior kicker's 11 points on the day was the difference in the ball game, with his 41-yard field goal in the fourth quarter being the third longest in AU history. Both of his field goals came in the final quarter and his second, 36 yards, sealed the game with 3:01 remaining.
The Spartans are currently 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference. Next action for the Spartan football team comes on Saturday, October 13 when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on Vago Field.
