Aurora University freshman Ricky Hernandez (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville H.S.) was named Northern Athletics Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending April 8, 2012.
Hernandez was key in Aurora's 2-1 week with an 8-1 victory over Rockford College, a 9-0 win over Marian University and a close 5-4 loss to Edgewood College.
Playing both No. 1 singles and doubles as a freshman, he has taken on the challenge quickly of facing the opponents' top player. He finished the week for the Spartans with a combined 5-1 record, as he was 2-1 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles action.
Next action for the Spartans, currently 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the NAC, comes on Thursday, April 12, when they travel to Dubuque, Iowa. AU will take on University of Dubuque at 1:30 p.m. and Loras College at 4:30 p.m.
