Aurora University freshman pitcher Eric Palmer (Melrose Park, Ill./East Leyden H.S.) was named Northern Athletics Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 15, 2012.
Palmer remained unbeaten in his first collegiate season, as he went 2-0 on the week with a 0.60 earned run average for the Spartans who went 5-2 on the week. He allowed just two runs (one earned) in a victory over Edgewood College (12-2 win) on Monday and followed it up with a complete-game shutout versus Concordia University Chicago (13-0 win) on Sunday as he allowed just three hits in the contest. In 15 innings pitched on the week, Palmer allowed 12 hits, struck out 12, walked just one, and allowed two runs with just one earned.
On the season, Palmer holds a 5-0 record with a 2.25 earned run average. In 32 innings pitched, he has 28 strikeouts while allowing 28 hits and giving up just six walks. Opponents are hitting .218 against him.
Next action for the Spartans, currently 21-6 overall and 9-3 in the NAC, comes today, Tuesday, April 17, when they travel to Elmhurst College. Game time is set for 3 p.m. in Elmhurst, Ill.
