The Aurora University Spartan women's soccer team extended their streak of not allowing an opponent to score a goal to 423:59 with this afternoon's 11-0 win over visiting Alverno College on Vago Field.
The streak spans over four and a half games with the last goal coming in the first half on October 9 when AU defeated Maranatha Baptist at Maranatha. Since the Maranatha goal at the 26:01 mark of the first period of that contest, the Spartan goalkeepers and defense have not allowed a single goal.
This afternoon against Alverno, AU jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 9:54 mark of the first period on a goal by junior forward
Jordan Joyce. Joyce's 13th goal of the season was assisted by junior midfielder Brook Walendzik.
The Joyce goal was all that the goalkeeping combination of sophomore
would need as the Spartan defense limited Alverno to one shot all afternoon.
The Spartan offense would explode for 10 more goals, including four more in the first half to give AU a 5-0 halftime lead.
The second half saw much of the same for the Spartans and Inferno as AU dominated play, scoring six second half goals for the final score of 11-0.
Scoring on the afternoon for the Spartans in addition to the first goal by Joyce were,
Raquel Rodriguez (two goals and one assist),
Molly Thayer (two goals),
Casey Beck (two goals), Sami Dykema (one goal and one assist),
Angela Smith (one goal and one assist),
Erin Aragon (one goal) and Jenee Lang (one goal). Adding assists to the scoring totals (one each) were Walendzik,
Britney Schenck, Sam Snyder,
Jacque Delcamp and
Heidi Gantz.
Next action for the Spartan women's soccer team comes on Sunday, October 24, 2010 when they host Lakeland College on Senior Day. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. on Vago Field.
