The 2010 home opener for the Spartan volleyball team didn't have the desired outcome as AU fell to Beloit College 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-16) on Tuesday night in Thornton Gymnasium.
The first set started out with the Spartans jumping out to a quick lead on the visiting Buccaneers 8-4 behind the hot serving of sophomore middle hitter
Brittany Budimier. Budimier would add four kills in the set as well to lead AU.
The two teams would battle back and forth throughout the contest with Beloit holding off the Spartans 25-23.
The Spartans were unable to maintain the Bucs to start set 2 as Beloit jumped out to a 15-0 lead that they wouldn't look back from. Beloit took set two, 25-13.
In the third set, Beloit maintained their advantage on the Spartans despite a determined effort by AU. Freshman outside hitter
Jasmine Gray was a bright spot for the Spartans with two kills in the final set, which Beloit took 25-16.
The Spartans fall to 2-3 on the season and are in action next on Friday, September 10, 2010 when they host the Jim Coleman Memorial Classic. AU plays at 4:00 p.m. against Monmouth College.
