Spartans douse Inferno with 11-0 win

AU starters prepare for the contest against Alverno
Box Score The Spartan women's soccer team entered this afternoon's Northern Athletics Conference contest with the Inferno of Alverno College on a red-hot eight game win streak in which they had out-scored their opponents
45-3.

AU continued their win streak with an 11-0 victory over the Inferno and extended their current win streak to nine games.

Spartan freshman midfielder Lisa Bajkowski got the Spartans on the scoreboard 1:28 into the game off a corner kick which was sent in by junior defender Britney Schenck.

It would take the Spartan offense nine more minutes before being able to get another goal past Inferno sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Robinson. At 10:32 into the first-half, junior forward Raquel Rodriguez scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Bajkowski struck again in the 15th minute (unassisted) and in the 30th minute sophomore midfielder Danielle Gillberg tallied an unassisted goal to give AU a 4-0 lead.

AU sophomore goalkeeper Liz Wong was the first of four Spartan keepers to play in the contest and she had the only save for the group.

The second-half saw much of the same as the Spartans controlled the contest and possession while scoring seven more goals for the eventual 11-0 win.

Tallying second-half goals for AU were junior Kaitlyn Crohan, senior Jordan Joyce, senior Christine Kwilosz, sophomore April Sutliff and junior Molly Thayer scored two. The lone unaccounted goal was an own goal credited to the Spartans after the ball was inadvertently kicked in to the Inferno goal by an Alverno defender.

Picking up assists in the second-half for the Spartans were Joyce, junior Kaity Brough, sophomore Erin Aragon and freshman Megan Burger.

The win improved AU to 12-3 overall and 8-0 in the NAC with the Spartans in action next on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Lakeland College with kick-off set for 1:00 p.m. in Sheboygan, Wis.
